Condensation between your window is caused by a broken window seal. Today’s windows feature two or three glass panes separated by air space that are then sealed entirely around the edges with a rubbery sealant to keep humidity out and the insulating gas in between the glass. These types of windows are officially known as an insulated glass unit (IGU). Visible condensation is the most common sign of a broken window seal. When a window seal fails, humid air can make its way between the panes and create the fog you’re seeing. The amount of fog may change depending on the outdoor weather but now that the seal is broken, the problem will persist and moisture will constantly build up leading to mould that you do not want in your home.
Condensation ON the glass can sometimes mean that you need new window glass, even though you don't see moisture in between the panes.
Ask our experts if your unsure if you need to replace your window panes.
Cracks can occur even when a window is not struck. The most common cause of inexplicable cracks in windows is stress. Stress cracks can occur in windows when there is a rapid change in temperature on the IGU which causes the glass in your window to expand by different amounts in different parts of the window. Eventually, depending on the range of temperatures and expansion, the glass may become compromised by the stress of expansion and a crack will form.
Tip: If you have a vent right above or below a window, try to direct the air away from it. This is especially important in the winter.
Here at King Glass we focus on and specialize in replacing commercial and residential glass. We do not change or alter the frame in any way, unless some minor repairs are necessary.
The benefit of replacing just the glass is that it will save you up to 80% compared to replacing the whole window.
If you have vinyl windows, they are most likely in great shape and replacing them too early would just be a waste of your hard earned money. A lot of times wood window frames are in great shape as well and can have many years of life left over. This all depends on how well they were maintained over the years.
Vinyl frames can last you up to 50 years if maintained correctly. This means keeping up with your window caulking and having your windows cleaned when necessary.
